Executed in carborundum with embossing, the work has a deeply textured, relief-like surface that distinguishes it from a conventional flat print. Dense black forms dominate the composition, interrupted by vivid blue and red, while embossed impressions emerge across the paper as the light changes.
Clavé was known for pushing printmaking beyond the flat image, using texture, pressure and relief to give the paper itself a sculptural presence. Gants et Signes is a documented work from this period; an impression is held in the collection of the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA).
